Alex Weinress - Director

Alex Weinress is an award-winning writer/director who has directed a range of critically acclaimed content including narrative comedy television, feature documentaries, short films, industrial films, TVCs and web series. His short film, A FIRST DATE, premiered at FLiCKERFEST 2013 and won The Jury Award for Highly Commended Australian Short Film as well as The SBS Television Award. The film has gone on to win Best Comedy at both New York Shortfest and Heart of Gold International Film Festival. In the digital space, Alex has directed TVCs and branded content for several major brands including Qantas, Commonwealth Bank of Australia, eHarmony, Hyundai and Jacob’s Creek.

The Mane Event, a web series Alex directed for Qantas won Silver at the Festival of Branded Entertainment and prestigious Caples Awards. In 2011 his web series SEBASTIEN INTERNATIONAL was nominated for a Gold Lion at Cannes. From 2007-2010 Alex wrote (developed) and directed two series of narrative comedy CHANDON PICTURES for The Movie Network (Australia). CHANDON PICTURES won an AWGIE (Australian Writers Guild Award) for Best Narrative Comedy and received nominations for an AFI (Australian Film Institute), LOGIE and ADG (Australian Directors Guild) award for Best Comedy Series.  In 2006 Alex won 1st Prize at Sony Tropfest Film Festival (Australia) for his short film CARMICHAEL & SHANE. Alex produced and directed the film with Rob Carlton. The film also won the Audience Award at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival and had screenings at the US Comedy Arts Festival, Telluride, Tribeca and Edinburgh Film Festivals. In 2012, the film was selected as one of the top 16 Tropfest films of all time to compete in the All-Stars competition at Tropfest Las Vegas.
